Once upon a time I was an NAU Climbing Club kid with a whole block of chalk in my bag… Upon discovering this wild passtime and community of vibrant, deeply passionate individuals, I became ingrained. Working at Flagstaff Climbing over the years has only fortified my passion for the community that exists in Northern Arizona. I am very excited to finally officially be a part of the NAZCC and to help foster a strong, supportive, and inclusive community that cares about our local crags just as much as we care about each other and nurtures the places that nurture us.

Dylan Prater
Board Member
My name is Dylan Prater, and my wife, Chelsea, and I have lived in Flagstaff for about three years. We were living out of our Chevy Astrovan with our two dogs, traveling the country climbing and looking for a new place to call home. I took a job with Mother Road Brewing Company, and I am the General Manager of the Hospitality Department.
I have been climbing for about 12 years now, and enjoy all styles. As climbers, I believe it is our responsibility to be stewards of the environment and our community. I am excited to use my position as Board Member as a means to better protect the places we use and love, and to create mutual, lasting relationships with the entities and peoples that we share them with.

I discovered climbing when I first moved to Flagstaff to attend NAU to study Biology! I quickly discovered the climbing club which led to my first experience climbing being at our local crag, The Pit. I fell in love with this community and with the sport itself. It very rapidly became an integral part of my life. Through climbing I was able to explore places I otherwise would have never known about and meet so many lifetime friends. I started working at Flagstaff Climbing, then was able to run the NAU climbing club that had taught me so much throughout the years. Now I’m managing Flagstaff Climbing, continuing to explore, climb, and adventure. I’m super stoked to give back and further connect to this community through the climbing coalition!

I moved to Flagstaff in the summer of 2014 after visiting a friend and falling in love with Northern Arizona. I have been a backpacking guide in the Grand Canyon, hiking guide in Sedona, and an educational Park Ranger at Red Rock State Park in Sedona. I am currently a student at NAU and will graduate in May of 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I have been climbing for about 10 years, mostly in the Southwest and West Coast, butby far the most in Northern Arizona where my heart is. My favorite places in the world to climb are on the sandstone sculptures of Sedona and basalt cliffs of the Flagstaff area. Icare deeply about this community, this landscape, and our beautiful climbing areas. I am extremely excited to be a part of the NAZCC so that I can give back to the community and places that have given me so much. As a board member, I most look forward to providing stewardship to our spectacular climbing areas and helping support the incredible people of our inclusive community.

As a midwesterner brimming with psych, I found the warm community and canyons of northern Arizona a welcome place to call home. My wife Anna and I have been here in Flagstaff since 2017 and we make it a point to enjoy all of the wonderful rock climbing venues that we have because they are all so good! I am grateful for the climbing community that we have and our surrounding wild spaces, and am eager to work with the NAZCC building into the places and people here in our backyard.
